呂中藝術教育理念 Our beliefs
To us, art is anything created to attend to the well-being of the soul, while also developing aesthetic sensibilities and cultivating artistic expression. It has to do with both nature and nurture. We have a strong conviction that arts education develops creative, critical and exploratory thinking and aesthetic abilities. We aim to educate our students to become not only academically competent, but to also be cultured youths. Arts education in LYC is implemented through incorporating it into the curriculum and conducting relevant activities. Collaborating with Bar Wo (the Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong), a well-established professional organization for Cantonese Opera performers, we have been offering Cantonese Opera programmes to junior forms, making LYC the very first school to introduce this art form into the regular curriculum. In addition, we provide opportunities for students to participate in other arts activities across different key learning areas such as project learning, opera performances, marionette shows and robot design. Our musical instrument classes, which are over 60 in number, strive to provide more arts enrichment for our students. Last but not least, Chinese and English dramas, as well as musicals are also core elements in our overall arts outlook. With our incessant efforts in fostering life-long interest in the arts among our students, we succeeded in winning the Award for Arts Education in 2012 and 2013 presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, which is recognition of LYC’s distinguished achievement in promoting arts education in Hong Kong.
